Need a confidence builder?

I had absolutely no confidence as a young person. I didn’t try out for the high school choir, because you had to stand in front of people. I didn’t apply to be an exchange student, because you had to travel abroad. Even though I had a journalism degree, I didn’t apply for a job at a newspaper when we were first married, because I figured everyone else was better than I was.

Even when I began to sing solos at my church, I had to stand behind a formidable pulpit, because my legs would shake, so I didn’t want people to see.

Stepping into the calling God had for my life gave me confidence. I first wrote articles for magazines, then began to have books for children published–board books, first chapter books, girls’ mysteries . . . 13 in all.

Then people asked me to speak, so I picked up that challenge, too, speaking at women’s retreats and other events such as prayerwalking events after my book PrayerWalk was published in 2001.

We can be confident when we step into God’s calling for our life. He will give us the abilities we need or point us to others who can teach us. The only thing we need is a YES.
